Lawrence v Texas

Lawrence v. Texas, a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case for privacy and sexual freedom rights, held (in a sodomy prosecution) that, absent a compelling societal interest (and moral disapproval is not such an interest), the government cannot make private consensual sexual activity a crime.  Attempts to argue Lawrence in appellate cases related to BDSM have been unsuccessful to date.
