In an unusual domestic abuse trial, an Oklahoma County jury Wednesday learned about a secretive lifestyle based on bondage and the infliction of pain during sex.

The jury heard about the so-called BDSM lifestyle from a Utah woman who signed an agreement with an Oklahoma City man that he would be the master and she would be his slave.

“I like sex rough. I like to be tied up. I like to be spanked,” the witness, Nanette Larsen, testified. “People in the lifestyle call people not in the lifestyle ‘vanilla.’”

A Manhattan judge has ordered the New York City Police Department to shine a light on the hazy legal line separating bondage, domination and sadomasochism from prostitution.

In a decision last week, New York County Supreme Court Justice Carol R. Edmead (See Profile) directed the NYPD to provide the Urban Justice Center's Sex Workers Project with documents regarding police investigations of several Manhattan bondage, domination and sadomasochism clubs between 2006 and 2008.

A federal judge has refused to strike down recent amendments to the federal Child Protection and Obscenity Enforcement Act that require photographers and filmmakers -- both professional and amateur -- to maintain records that verify the age and identity of anyone depicted in a sexually explicit film or photograph....In doing so, Baylson rejected the plaintiffs' claim that the record-keeping requirements are overbroad because they apply to "all expression containing sexual imagery -- no matter how fleeting, no matter how artistic or valuable as political commentary or journalistic documentary, no matter how clear it is that the persons depicted are middle-aged adults."
