PEORIA, Ill. (AP) – City leaders in Peoria have voted to outlaw businesses that allow people to watch or participate in sex.
The measure passed on a 9-1 vote Tuesday night by the City Council. It’s aimed at what is reportedly a private swingers club where couples meet and swap partners.
Mayor Jim Ardis told the Journal Star newspaper in Peoria that he and others don’t want businesses like Club 307 in Peoria. He considers its presence a public health problem.
Councilman Gary Sandberg cast the only vote against the measure. He said he believes it goes too far in trying to regulate the activities of consenting adults.
Club owner Danny Laud was not at the meeting and has not returned calls from news outlets calls seeking comment.
