Incident Reporting & Response

GET HELP NOW!

We provide assistance to individuals, groups and businesses with issues that directly and specifically relate to BDSM, swing or polyamory activities between consenting adults.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest. NCSF may use aggregate information as part of our research while maintaining confidentiality of reporters.

IRR will respond within 2 days of a request. Please check your spam folder. If you don’t hear back from us, please email NCSFreedom@ncsfreedom.org

Different members of the IRR Team will respond if we receive requests from both sides of a consent violation.

NOTE: NCSF does not provide legal aid, nor do we offer specific legal advice for individuals.

Reports We Do Not Take

Interpersonal disputes are typically not within the scope of NCSF; however, we can refer people to professional mediation, community support services, and trauma or kink-aware counseling for issues such as:

  • Emotional abuse
  • Gaslighting
  • Verbal abuse
  • Humiliation
  • Talking about bad experiences they had with someone
  • Unpopular speech on social media
  • Arguments about ideology or ideas
Reports We Do Take

For groups, businesses and professional practices, NCSF takes reports on:

  • Cultural competency and consent information about kink and non-monogamy
  • Advice on consent policy and procedures
  • Organizational resources
  • Licensing issues
  • Insurance
  • Shadow-banning
  • Media crisis

For Individuals, NCSF takes first-person reports on:

  • Discrimination due to your kink or non-monogamy practices
  • Removing kink or non-monogamy as a barrier to public services
  • Child custody or divorce issues
  • Referral to a professional, such as an attorney or therapist
  • Submitting a public document about a criminal arrest, conviction or order of protection
  • Reports of outing or doxxing

For consent violations, NCSF takes first-person reports of acts that could be in violation of criminal law including:

  • Physical assault – Hurting someone in violation of their limits, or after saying “no” or safewording.
  • Sexual assault – Intentionally touching the breasts, genitals or buttocks without consent.
  • Blackmail – Demanding payment or acts in return for not revealing compromising information.
  • Revenge Porn – Posting or sharing nude or sexually explicit photos/videos without consent, often in retaliation.
  • Stealthing – Removing a condom during a sexual act, or exposure to STIs.
  • Stalking – Following someone to their home or workplace without permission.
  • Harassment – A pattern of unwanted communication after a request for no contact and social media blocks.

Occasionally, NCSF will take reports for our member groups if they are developing procedures to take reports of consent violations, or if someone would like to first report to a neutral third party who can also provide resources and referrals to trauma-informed counselors. While NCSF will share “Best Practices” and other resources and recommendations for groups to create their own systems, as a national organization, we cannot possibly understand the culture of each organization or local community, so we cannot adjudicate, investigate, or meditate on any particular issue, report, or person specifically.

REFERRALS

NCSF makes referrals to professionals from our Kink Aware Professionals (KAP) – Sex-Positive Support for Kink and Nonmonogamy, Psychology Today’s Sex Positive Therapist Database and LGBTQIA-friendly professionals and specialty professionals who advertise themselves as such online. We conduct a reasonable inquiry into whether the professionals are licensed in their field, but have undertaken no further investigation, including review of work products or inquiries, regarding the quality of the services provided by referred professionals. We will not supervise or monitor a referred professional’s performance of services for you in any manner. We assume no responsibility for a referred professional’s work product. You are responsible for evaluating, selecting, and retaining any professional and determining whether their services will meet your needs. You acknowledge that there is always a risk that a referred professional will act negligently or fraudulently and agree to hold us harmless in that event.

The NCSF Incident Reporting & Response Team’s purpose is to provide assistance to individuals, groups and businesses with issues that directly and specifically relate to BDSM, swing or polyamory activities between consenting adults. NCSF is not legal aid, nor do we offer specific legal advice for individuals. NCSF is a resource for the members of the kink, poly and Lifestyle communities and for people seeking information about them. NCSF provides publicly available information on kink and nonmonogamy for consenting adults. We advocate on behalf of the BDSM, swing and polyamory communities. The issue must openly, directly, and specifically relate to BDSM, swing or poly activities between consenting adults; in other words, the problems you face must relate to or be caused from your involvement in BDSM, swing or poly without question.
