The release of the film adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey” has triggered not just controversy – but also a spike in BDSM-related searches at a pornography-oriented site.
Pornhub, which claims to be the world’s biggest porn site, said it noted a “significant increase” in BDSM-related searches after the film was released.
Not only that – searches by women far outnumbered those by men after the film was released.
“(S)ince the now infamous film was released over Valentine’s Day weekend, BDSM related searches have seen a significant increase on Pornhub,” it said.
The sudden spike is not only in the United States but also worldwide, according to a chart produced by Pornhub.
Pornhub also noted a sudden rise in BDSM searches – nearly 40 percent by women, more than by men, after the movie premiered.
“Suffice it to say, our female users have definitely been channeling their inner Anastasia Steele’s,” it said.

Pornhub said “submission” and “dominate” top the list of search words, along with “whip,” “master” and “leather.”
