
NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 69 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in January, February and March 2023. That is a 26% increase compared to the 51 reports NCSF received in the 4th Quarter of 2022.
NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.
Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 1st Quarter of 2023:
Criminal
There were 29 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 23 in the 4th Quarter of 2022. The reports include:
- 23 reports about assault, sexually assault, choking, stealthing, recorded without consent, blackmail, drugged and obtained an order of protection (4 of the people who were reported were community organizers)
- 3 people reported they had violated consent
- 1 person needed a criminal defense attorney after being called for a lineup
- 1 person was asking about legality of condom distribution
- 1 person inquired about prostitution laws and kink.
Groups
There were 17 requests from organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 15 requests in the 4th Quarter of 2022. The reports include:
- 5 groups were asking about attendees/presenters/organizers or reporting they had banned someone
- 3 groups asked for assistance with their consent policies & procedures
- 2 groups needed assistance with DEI
- 2 groups were having venue issues
- 2 people were banned by a group and wanted to appeal it
- 1 group needed assistance in setting up a club
- 1 group was being attacked by the local township
- 1 group needed information on IRS status for groups
Civil
There were 7 reports compared to 4 in the 4th Quarter of 2022:
- 2 people reported job discrimination involving kink
- 2 people reported being extorted by a pro-Domme
- 1 pro-Domme reported being deplatformed
- 1 person reported receiving cease & desist for alleged defamation
- 1 person reported they were suing a kink group for defamation
Outing
There were 6 reports compared to 4 in the 4th Quarter of 2022:
- 2 people reported they were outed after talking about a consent violation involving choking
- 2 people reported they were outed (1 to their employer through FetLife screenshots)
- 1 person reported that an organizer outed them
- 1 person asked about outing themselves during a security clearance process
Professionals
There were 5 requests regarding professionals compared to 4 in the 4th Quarter of 2022:
- A student asked about research grants for kink research
- A professional needed articles on IPV and BDSM
- A photographer wanted info on 2257
- A professional reported licensing issue due to being a sex educator
- A student was accused of sexual harassment for educating about kink
Child Custody
There were 5 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 1 in the 4th Quarter of 2022:
- 3 parents reported child custody issues due to BDSM
- 1 parent reported child custody issues due to polyamory
- 1 parent reported child custody issues due to being a sex worker
