The PR Committee manages NCSF’s social media by building awareness about NCSF and providing education about our projects and consent to enhance our presence and be more effective at broadcasting our information. The PR Committee falls under the Media Outreach Program which does media advocacy for kink and non-monogamy groups, events and individuals on request.
Executive Summary
- The trends we’ve been seeding in media coverage since the pandemic continued in 2025.
- There was an increase in negative media about kink and nonmonogamy. For example, in the month of October these negative articles were published:
- It’s Time to Push Back Against the Glamorization of Polyamory
- Rough love: Why some couples seek pain during intimacy
- Harvard to host ‘BDSM and Kinks’ workshop as part of 13th annual ‘Sex Week,’ offers free sex toys
- Kink groups ‘are promoting fetishes’ to freshers on university campuses and parents aren’t pleased
- Kink groups ‘promote fetishes’ on campus
- Shadow-banning continues to seriously impact NCSF’s social media outreach, however our reach has increased somewhat in 2025 due to abandoning hashtags that contain words like “kink” “BDSM and “swinging”.
- Markedly fewer articles are being published that fit our Media Update criteria due to the shadow banning of these words. This is the 4th year of a steady decline in MUs and Interviews we’ve given (see the graphs below). In our mainstream PR, we may need to stop using shadow-banned words such as “kink” “BDSM” and “swinging” or shadow banning will stifle media coverage of Explicit Prior Permission and our constitutents.
