Keeping Married Sex Hot:
Reddened cheeks, damp panties, and bedroom bliss
by Rachel Kramer Bussel

Couples cope with the strain long-term marriage puts on their sex lives in various ways. For suburban mom Jane Black, keeping kink an erotic sanctuary with the occasional hotel romp is a vital part of her marriage. "There have been some really long, dry spells, and BDSM has been a way for us to find our way back to hot sex. It provides variety because we're always buying toys, reading porn, exploring power exchange in new ways, and trying to stay in touch with our inner perverts." Though theirs isn't a full-time master-slave relationship, she maintains that "the kernel of submission is there all the time, whether we're fucking or cleaning the house."
But for writer Jenny Block's husband and many of Perel's clients, the more they love someone, the more they want to cherish and protect them – but not fuck them in the most animalistic sense of the word. "I figured that since my husband was the person with whom I shared the greatest intimacy, he'd be the guy I could do anything with, sexually speaking. Once we got married, though, he didn't want me to be his little slut anymore. At first that pissed me off, but I soon realized I wasn't going to change him and didn't really want to," confesses Block, who's in an open marriage.

Whip-wielding sting-along
by Jennifer Parks
The Edmonton Sun
August 22, 2006
"Welcome, slaves," Eleanor O'Brien greets the audience, switch in hand.
This is the beginning of a one-hour journey of sexual discovery, humour and boundary bending that's sexy, fun, intelligent, and, at times, challenging to take in.
But it's also surprisingly touching, and not as hard-core of an experience as one quickly braces for with this irreverent whip-wielding woman in fishnets.
O'Brien, a New York actor who fell in love with Fringing two years ago and has been criss-crossing Canada ever since, is dynamic, skilled and gripping in this edgy one-woman play that explores the job of dominatrix-in-training at a New York S&M parlour, where O'Brien's character has secured a job off the Internet that pays $75 an hour.
Now she can make her rent money in one shift, so, giving up her waitress job, she throws herself into her new line of work with much trepidation.
She meets Equinox, a robust, larger woman who philosophizes about the profession in-between gigs while squeezing her body into a tight PVC uniform at her locker.
"You just don't think about it," she counsels the new protege, popping in a suppository and inviting Lady Madeleine (O'Brien) to observe as she gets scatological with her client.
After this, not surprisingly, the bewildered trainee can't stomach her lunch of chicken and broccoli.
As she describes what she saw in the dungeon there's palpable discomfort in the audience, evidenced by nervous laughter and the exchanging of totally grossed-out looks that seem to say, "Do some people really enjoy this stuff?"
