Incident Reporting & Response – 4th Quarter 2019 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 39 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in October, November and December 2019. This is sharply down compared to the 58 requests received in the 3rd Quarter of 2019.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.

Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 4th Quarter of 2019:

Criminal

There were 13 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 15 in the 3rd Quarter of 2019: 

  • 9 requests came from people who reported a
    sexual assault, assault, threats, sexual harassment
  • 2 requests came from people who had revenge porn
    posted on them
  • 1 person requested resources and referrals for
    attorneys to assist in defending themselves against a restraining order
  • 2 prosecutors needed referral for expert witnesses
    on BDSM

Groups

12 organizations or people dealing with groups requested resources, half the number in the 3rd Quarter of 2019:

  • 5 groups asked for resources on dealing with a
    consent incident or proactively creating a consent policy
  • 3 groups were asking about presenters/organizers
    or reporting they had banned someone
  • 2 groups were dealing with incorporation and
    zoning
  • 2 groups were dealing with venue problems

Professional

There were 6 requests by professionals or for referrals to kink and polyamory aware professionals, compared to 8 in the 3rd Quarter of 2019:

  • 2 students needed educational resources for dissertations
    – CNM and kink/child custody discrimination
  • 2 professionals needed information on Kink
    Clinical Guidelines
  • 1 researcher needed their survey reviewed for
    sensitivity to kinky people who were abused as children and are using kink to
    deal with past trauma.
  • 1 person was looking for a kink aware
    therapist

Civil

4 requests, compared to 6 in the 3rd Quarter of 2019:

  • 2 people were fired from union jobs – one for
    kink and the other for polyamory. Both were accused of sexual harassment in the
    workplace
  • 1 person is being sued for defamation for
    posting that someone raped them
  • 1 person was threatened with outing by a FetLife
    member

Child Custody

There were 4 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 5 in the 3rd Quarter of 2019:

  • 2 involved kink
  • 1 involved polyamory
  • 1 involved LGBTQ
