Annual Meeting Expectations of behavior

For Members: While this one-day format is certainly more accessible, it means we may not have the time on each subject we may need. As always though, YOU are NCSF and we welcome your thoughts and voice. There are several ways to do that:

For Non-Members: While everyone is welcome to attend and observe, this meeting is specifically for our membership, so if you are not a member, please refrain from commenting. Caramel

Caramel R (she/her), or Caramel as most know her, serves on the NCSF Board of Directors and is co-founder and Lady of RAVENOUS, Baltimore's Bi-Monthly Munch and Education Group for people of color. A survivor, advocate, educator, and researcher, she is committed to helping and educating people about sexual assault.

Caramel joined the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom in January 2021 and currently serves as a committee member for Educational Outreach, Consent Counts, and Public Relations. In 2022, upon the American Law Institute's approval of Section 213.10 of the Model Penal Code, she spearheaded Maryland's outreach and education initiative. From her efforts, the NCSF formed partnerships with the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) and the Maryland Women of Color Network (MWOCN) to educate legal professionals and victim services personnel on Explicit Prior Permission (EPP). Caramel represented the NCSF at state and national meetings, including the MCASA Legislative Reception and the Woodhull Foundation's Sexual Freedom Summit. She is also researching and developing a kink- and CNM-aware policy on bystander intervention.

Her experience as an educator spans two decades. In 2019, Caramel worked for the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA), where she breathed new life into its College Consortium, uniting colleges and universities across the state to place a spotlight on this dark topic. Previously, she has served as the Baltimore City Coordinator for FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture and as a Relationship Violence Peer Educator at her college alma mater.

Caramel is pursuing her studies for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, where she continues her research in Intimate partner violence. Her research interest focuses on disclosure of intimate partner violence (IPV) among Black queer women as a catalyst for healing. When she is not educating or being educated, she explores her love for fashion through crochet.

Dr. Daria Chase

Dr. Chase Daria is a licensed psychologist in NY and a registered telehealth provider in FL. Daria is trilingual, fluent in English, French & Russian, completing her B.A. in Economics in 2003 at Sorbonne University in Paris, France, an M.B.A. in Business / Management in 2006 from Concordia University /Institut Francais de Gestion Montreal, Canada/ Paris, France, as well as a double Master's degree: Ed.M. in Mental Health Counseling and an M.A. in Psychological Counseling at Columbia University (Teachers College) New York, NY.

She was awarded her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2017 from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. The title of her doctoral dissertation was: Prevalence of Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) in Children in a Psychiatric Inpatient Setting and its Relationship to Clinical Diagnoses of Bipolar Disorder.

She has taught at both Adelphi University and Fairleigh and supervised doctoral students at Adelphi University, Derner School of Psychology.

She has completed Certified Training in Couples Therapy from September 2020- May 2022 at Adelphi University, Advanced Training in Couples EFT, Advanced Training in Gottman Therapy, and Certified Training and Advanced training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from September 2017-May 2020. She also has training in both IPT and DBT as well as a focus on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Daria's areas of expertise are infertility, life transitions, addictions, relationships among neurodiverse partners. In her private practice Daria works both with monogamous and CNM relationships.

In her spare time, she enjoys photography, scuba diving, and Contemporary Art.

Jackie ‘Bebe’ Harris

Jackie ‘Bebe’ Harris (she/her) is a midwest native and has been actively involved in service since discovering our communities 15 years ago. She has served in many different capacities in her local groups, from Secretary to Membership, even Chairperson. She is the founder of two groups, ‘StL Polyharmonic’ group, serving her St Louis poly community since 2016, and more recently founded the ‘Submissive Safe Call’, a virtual discussion group formed to keep s types connected and learning during the time of COVID.

Jackie currently serves NCSF as Coalition Partner (CP) Liaison, committed to fostering open lines of communication between the NCSF Board of Directors and the Coalition Partner Groups. She is often a CP Groups’ first contact, providing information and resource links for use in your groups. Two years ago, she began the NCSF Quarterly CP Town Halls, allowing Leaders from across the country to gather confidentially, share information, discuss issues facing our communities and look to each other for support. Jackie will research topics of discussion, often from CP suggestions, and arrange for resources and learning opportunities during the Town Halls.

Outside of the lifestyle, she serves as a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate for her community SVU group, supporting survivors in emergency settings, helping them to navigate our complicated medical and legal systems surrounding sexual assault. She has made great inroads with her local SVU group, educating them on complications in reporting when victims are involved in alt-lifestyles. She is a supporter of local advocacy groups near St Louis, MO, including the ‘Feed the People’ garden, a trans-owned community garden addressing food insecurity and Metro Trans Umbrella Group (MTUG).

Jackie was chosen for the 2020 ‘Servant Leader’ award from Leather Leadership Conference, recognizing her commitment to our communities through community service. She is often the smiling face you see at the NCSF table at events! She organizes fundraisers and connects with attendees, offering information on NCSF services and programs. Jackie presents on topics of consent, service, polyamory and power exchange when attending conferences from the midwest to the east coast. Jackie would like to continue on the Board of Directors of NCSF, to further develop the Coalition Partner Liaison role. She believes in the mission of NCSF and that our shared knowledge is power! Keeping the Coalition Partners informed and furthering engagement in NCSF programs is her goal. She believes that we are all stronger together.

Dr. Elyssa Helfer

I am Dr. Elyssa Helfer, founder of Elevated Healing Center, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and Clinical Sexologist in the Los Angeles area. I earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology, a Masters in Clinical Psychology, and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serving clientele in California, Colorado, and Florida. As an Adjunct Professor at Antioch University- Seattle, I specialize in and educate about working with erotically marginalized communities, primarily the kink population. In addition to my therapy practice, I create and present kink/BDSM- related coursework and workshops, write for Psychology Today (Kink Outside The Box blog), and am a Research Associate at The Alternative Sexualities Health Research Alliance (TASHRA). Now that I have covered the letters surrounding my name, you should know who I am and why I do what I do. I may be an academic in practice, but I am an activist at heart. Every single inch of me burns with a desire to fight to make this world a better place. My life is wholeheartedly dedicated to giving a voice to those who have been silenced and using my privilege, skills, and passion to shift the current landscape of sexual shame into one of sexual freedom. A single paragraph is not enough to convey just how strongly I feel about my purpose in this world, so I invite you to take a chance on me and allow me to add my own fuel to NCSF’s magnificent and unstoppable fire.

Kelly Larkin

Kelly Larkin has served as Secretary, KAP Director, and Volunteer Coordinator for NCSF over the past three years. She has provided prompt and thorough meeting notices and meeting minutes to board members during this time. As KAP Director, she manages all new listings, data integrity/cleanup, and questions from users and professionals. As Volunteer Coordinator, she receives all volunteer applications, directs volunteers to programs that fit their skills, and sources skilled volunteers for NCSF projects.

Kelly has been part of the BDSM community since 2013. She started volunteering in 2015 at one of NCSF’s Coalition Partners, The Red Chair, located in Alabama. She served as Volunteer Coordinator of The Red Chair from 2016 to 2017 and Secretary of Operations from 2017 to 2019. She managed a staff of seven front desk volunteers, tracked event attendance, documented event income, and stored confidential member information. During her tenure, she helped institute gender-neutral bathrooms and The Red Chair’s standardized consent policy and consent incident reporting procedures. After retiring from her officer position in 2020 and moving to Tennessee, she has continued to support The Red Chair as Website Coordinator, managing their internal and external websites, virtual events, and event attendance forms.
