A Nashville swingers club making news lately has added something new to its website: the photo and address of Metro Councilwoman Karen Bennett.
The club asks members to voice their opinions about a proposed zoning change aimed at blocking the club from relocating. And the club offers up Bennett’s photo, home address and phone number, and council email address (karen.bennett@nashville.gov).
Bennett is the lead sponsor on a bill to disallow private clubs from opening on properties zoned for office use, as is the case at 520 Lentz Drive in Madison, where The Social Club has applied to open.
Bennett laughed about appearing on the club’s website but declined comment.
A first reading on the proposal is scheduled for Tuesday night, with a public hearing to follow in March.
Goodpasture Christian School leaders, who don’t want the club to open next door to their campus, will host a meeting for the school’s parents and local businesses at 6 p.m. Monday at the school.
After community outcry about the club’s plan to relocate from downtown Nashville, the club struck back last week by vowing a legal fight if the city tries to change the zoning now, after the club spent $750,000 on the property. …
