Incident Reporting & Response – 2nd Quarter 2020 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 26 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in April, May and June, 2020. That is a 30% drop from the 1st Quarter of 2020 when 37 reports were received.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide our communities with a record of where the need is the greatest.

Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 2nd Quarter of 2020:

Criminal

There were 12 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 11 in the 1st Quarter of 2020:  The reports include:

  • 6 reports came from people who were assaulted, stalked, harassed, required a restraining order, reporting sex offender status of someone and/or were threatened with outing
  • 4 people requested resources and referrals for attorneys to assist in defending themselves against criminal charges or a restraining order
  • 1 public defender needed referrals for expert witnesses on age play
  • 1 report involved the legality of sex work

Groups

7 organizations or people dealing with groups requested resources, half the number who requested help in the 1st Quarter of 2020. The reports include:

  • 2 groups inquired about the SBA “prurient” exclusion, leading to NCSF publishing The Check Box: We are not prurient
  • 2 groups were dealing with incorporation and zoning
  • 1 group reported they had banned someone
  • 1 group asked for resources on dealing with a consent incident
  • 1 group was dealing with hotel/venue issues

Professional

There were 3 requests by professionals compared to 5 in the 1st Quarter of 2020:

  • 2 professionals needed information on consent in kink and on the virtual platforms our community groups and businesses are using
  • 1 PhD student needed data on child custody discrimination for a paper

Child Custody

There were 2 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 3 in the 1st Quarter of 2020:

  • 1 involved kink and non-monogamy
  • 1 involved non-monogamy

Civil cases

There were 2 reports, the same as the 1st Quarter of 2020:

  • 1 person reported being defamed
  • 1 person was facing job discrimination over wearing their dog collar
