Study: Bondage May Make Men Happier

Bondage and discipline may actually make men happier, according to the first national survey of Australians' fetish habits.
The new sex study has revealed that 2 percent of Australian men and 1.4 percent of women admit to enjoying dominance, submission and sadomasochism-type sex in the past year.
But researchers involved in the phone survey of 20,000 people say they expect many more Australians to be engaging in the practice but unwilling to label it BDSM (bondage, discipline, domination and submission).
"There will definitely be more men and women who have sexual tastes in this direction but won't call it this", said Dr. Juliet Richters, of the University of New South Wales.
"They might not like sex magazines but they just happen to like being tied up and spanked as part of foreplay.
"Ask them if they're into BDSM they'll say 'Yuck, no'".
The survey results, to be presented at the World Association of Sexual Health congress in Sydney this week, give the first snapshot of Australians involved in bondage behaviour.
In women, BDSM was most popular among under 20-year-olds and those who had a partner they didn't live with. There were no age or relationship trends in men, she said.
People who engaged in the habit were more likely to be sexually adventurous in other ways, like trying anal sex and phone sex, looking at internet pornography or using sex toys.
They were no more likely to have suffered sexual difficulties, sexual abuse or coercion or anxiety than other Australians.
In fact, says Dr. Richters, men into BDSM scored significantly better on a scale of psychological wellbeing than other men.
"This seems to imply that these men are actually happier as a result of their behaviour, though we're not sure why", she said.
"It might just be that they're more in harmony with themselves because they're into something unusual and are comfortable with that.
"There's a lot to be said for accepting who you are".

Los Angeles, CA (BANG) – Eva Longoria has never been one to stay quiet about her sex life. In her latest revelation, the actress says she loves being tied up during sex.
The "Desperate Housewives" beauty – who is engaged to basketball star Tony Parker – enjoys being dominated in the bedroom.
She revealed to Live magazine's Louise Gannon: "I'm not averse to being tied up in silk scarves. I like a man to take charge. There's something very sexy about being submissive."
The 32-year-old actress also revealed she regularly has Brazilian bikini waxes because she only ever wears G-Strings.
She added: "Every girl should have a Brazilian wax. It's my sexy secret. And I only ever wear thongs. I don't own a pair of knickers with a proper back to them."

Bedford dominatrix case delayed for week
by Bruce Golding
The Journal News (Lower Hudson area, NY)

BEDFORD – The professional dominatrix accused of selling kinky sex services appeared briefly last night before a town judge who postponed her case for a week over questions about evidence.
Sandra Chemero, 46, did not speak in court and ignored questions from reporters as she left the Bedford Town House.
Chemero, who wore a black ankle-length coat and stiletto heel boots, then left in a dark blue Bentley sports car driven by her defense lawyer. He also ignored questions.
But moments later, a woman who identified herself only as "Madame X" approached several TV news crews to loudly proclaim her support for Chemero and to graphically call for reform of laws against prostitution.
"Government doesn't belong in our bedrooms!" shouted the woman, who handed out a business card for a sex toy Web site.
Chemero was arrested in February after police said she offered an undercover officer sex for $275 an hour.
The sting came after authorities were tipped off last year that Chemero was behind a Web site that advertised dominatrix services at a white farmhouse in Bedford Hills.
The building at 235 Haines Road is owned by a neighboring Orthodox Jewish seminary, whose owners said they rented it without knowing what went on there.
Recently, she unveiled a new Web site soliciting donations toward legal fees and other expenses for "Bedford Hills Dominatrix Sandra Chemero of the Sovereign Estate."

Bondage pics found in former astronaut's car
Associated Press report via The Asheville Citizen-Times (North Carolina)
April 12, 2007
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – A police search of former astronaut Lisa Nowak's car turned up bondage photos on a computer disk, British currency and pills, according to documents released Tuesday by prosecutors.
A judge last week agreed to unseal some of the documents in the Nowak's case. She is accused of trying to kidnap a rival for a space shuttle pilot's affections.
Nearly all of the 16 images found on the disk depicted bondage scenes, according to a forensic examination report by the Orlando Police Department. Some of the images showed a nude woman while others were drawings.
The documents did not make clear whether Nowak was the woman in the photos or who the disks belonged to.

"Collaring" ceremony educates students about BDSM lifestyle
by Jessica Anderson
The Indiana Daily Student (University of Indiana)
April 10, 2007
On a beautiful but chilly Saturday in April, friends gathered in the coffeehouse in the basement of Collins to witness the union of sophomores Graham Skinner and Rebecca Dacso.
The couple was doing a mock collaring for Dacso's Collins Q199: Residential Learning Workshop, class project, fulfilling a requirement to get the "community involved" in their research.
"Getting collared" is the BDSM version of a wedding, "pretty much pledging to live a lifestyle", Dasco said. Skinner said collarings are performed between two people in a committed BDSM relationship.
The different letters of the "BDSM" acronym, for instance, can mean different things, Graham said. The "B" usually stands for bondage. The "D" can mean discipline or domination, the "S" submission or sadism. "M" is for masochism.
Dacso said the rituals of collaring can vary but her own ceremony was similar to a wedding: The two exchanged "declarations" similar to wedding vows, and the ceremony ended with Dacso kneeling while Skinner placed a thick black collar around her neck, complete with a piece of yarn instead of a real lock. Dacso said that for a real collaring to be complete, the "sub", or submissive, wears a lock to show he or she is "taken".
Dacso said most collarings aren't as public. Usually they involve only the couple and maybe a witness. However, close to 20 people attended Dasco's collaring, as it was intended as a demonstration to educate the public.
Dacso also said that, instead of wearing her white skirt and top, she would be naked in a typical collaring.
Following their collaring, Dacso and Skinner sat on a panel with a couple that practices BDSM. The Collins residents were encouraged to ask questions about the lifestyle.
The couple on the panel said they don't have plans to get collared. But James, a sophomore who asked that his last name not be revealed, said he still wears a blue nylon collar as a sign of commitment.
