Judge denies Montco woman release from prison
by Pamela Lehman
The Morning Call (Pennsylvania)
May 6, 2004
A Montgomery County judge on Thursday denied a request to allow a woman charged with lying to police about the death of a porn star to be released from county prison.
Jennifer Mitkus, 30, of Oaks, has been charged with unsworn falsification to authorities and hindering apprehension for allegedly lying about her last contact with Natel King.
Prosecutors have said King, 23, was stabbed to death during a bondage photo session in Conshohocken. Anthony Frederick, 41, of Eagleville, was the photographer in that session and has been charged with King's murder. He remains in county prison with no bail.

Woman accused of operating dominatrix business out of garage
by Nita Birmingham The Charleston Post and Courier (South Carolina) May 5, 2004
A Dorchester County woman is out on bond on charges she illegally ran a dominatrix business out of her garage and promoted obscenity on her Internet Web site.
Inez Titchenal Thedford, 56, was released from jail Monday on $5,000 bail for promoting obscenity and a personal recognizance bond for not having a business license. Dorchester County sheriff's investigators arrested Thedford on Saturday at her home in Tranquil Estates.
The sheriff's office got a tip in February that a woman in the neighborhood was operating a "bizarre" sex business out of her home, Maj. Mike Turner said. The concerned citizen gave deputies an Internet address that led to her site, which was established in 1995, according to her Web page.
An undercover investigator made an appointment for a one-hour session, Turner said. Other investigators outside the house listened in on surveillance equipment and started knocking on the front door once the $150 fee had been exchanged.
The walls inside the dungeon were lined with whips, harnesses, chains, masks, paddles and handcuffs. Police also found a sensory-deprivation box.

SUNY Trustee Takes On Ivory Towers
by Michael Gormley
Associated Press (via FrontPageMag.com)
May 5, 2004
Candace de Russy has railed against a State University of New York college's sadomasochistic sex program to "60 Minutes." She earned a televised pledge from conservative icon Bill O'Reilly to fight for her job as SUNY trustee, and won an appointment from President Bush to a board of the scandal-plagued U.S. Air Force Academy.
"It is necessary to preserve our civilization. I do not see it as optional," said de Russy, 60, from the upscale New York City suburb of Bronxville. "This country is now in a civil cultural war and the radical, secular, 'progressive' left may well destroy our traditional principles and institutions, and notably our education institutions, which is seminal to the rest of the institutions … "
Two years into her term, she drew national attention over her criticism of a program called "Revolting Behavior: The Challenges of Women's Sexual Freedom" at SUNY New Paltz. She said the 1997 conference, which included the sale of sex toys and presentations on sadomasochism, was about pornography, not women's studies or academic freedom. In 2001, the college president resigned and de Russy's effort was considered a catalyst.

Members of Cuffs fear assault verdict will strain freedoms
by Tom Barton
Iowa State Daily
May 3, 2004
After a recent appeal failed to reverse the guilty verdict in their assault case, members of the bondage and sadomasochism group Cuffs say the university's decision could have a "chilling effect" on the rights of college students across the nation. They say they won't let that happen.
Cuffs members plan to appeal the case to a higher authority.
Dean of Students Pete Englin made his decision Friday upholding a previous ruling finding the bondage and sadomasochism group guilty of assault in violation of Iowa law and university regulations. Englin also upheld the rulings provision for a restriction on the group's ability to perform BDSM demonstrations.
Englin wrote the appeal raises concerns of whether there was substantial evidence to find the demonstration was intended to cause pain and whether Cuffs is being discriminated against, since sports clubs on campus involved with physical activity that cause pain are exempted from Iowa Assault law.
"It is my determination that when a person hits someone with a flogger, hand, cane or paddle, it meets the definition of assault as is done with the intent to cause 'pain,'" Englin wrote.

Photographer faces trial in murder of adult entertainer
by Katie O'Connor The Pottstown Mercury April 24, 2004
WHITEMARSH — Anthony J. Frederick smiled and kissed his wife on the cheek Friday after murder charges were held for trial against him in the killing of a Canadian adult film actress and model. Hindering apprehension and unsworn falsification charges were held against his photo assistant, Jennifer Mitkus of Oaks, and her bail was changed to 10 percent of $100,000.
Castor said that Natel King was killed Feb. 29 in the basement of an apartment at 105 W. Third Ave. in Conshohocken and that blood found in the basement is hers. "She did not leave that place alive," he said. "And he erased all the photos he took at the Conshohocken apartment."
Detectives found King's blood in Frederick's car and a photo depicting a backdrop identical to the one that was wrapped around King's body when she was found March 23, Castor said.
During a search of Frederick's home at 1124 Bayless Place in Lower Providence on March 24, county detectives found a camera bag that contained a handwritten contract listing sexual acts to be performed. One of those acts included a "snuff vid." According to Castor, "snuff" depicts someone being murdered while having sex.
In an interview with county detectives on March 6, Frederick said he met King early Feb. 29 at the Hampton Inn in Oaks and held two photo shoots with her, one of which depicted "light bondage," police said. King and Frederick then drove separately to the Perkiomen Hotel and met with Mitkus, according to police, who said that all three then drove to the apartment in Conshohocken, where King and Frederick continued their bondage photo shoot in the basement.
