
Incident Reporting & Response – 2nd Quarter 2021 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 45 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in April, May and June, 2021. That is a drop from the 68 reports received in the 1st Quarter of 2021, with April having the highest number of reports (22).
NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.
Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 2nd Quarter of 2021:
Groups
Resources were requested by 17 organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 18 requests in the 1st Quarter of 2021. The reports include:
- 8 groups asked for a consultation on consent policies & procedures and dealing with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion incidents
- 4 groups were asking about presenters/organizers or reporting they had banned someone
- 2 people were banned by groups and want to appeal it
- 2 groups were deplatformed – one by Instagram and the other by credit card processor
- 1 person was looking for a kink group in their area
Criminal
There were 14 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 18 in the 1st Quarter of 2021: The reports include:
- 8 reports came from people who were assaulted, sexually assaulted, harassed, stealthed or exposed to an STI nonconsensually
- 4 reports requested resources and referrals for attorneys and resources to assist in defending themselves against allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, a restraining order, additional sentencing due to BDSM photos, or they a needed an expert witness
- 2 reports involve sex work
Professional
There were 8 requests regarding professionals compared to 6 in the 1st Quarter of 2021:
- 5 people were looking for a kink aware therapist, sex therapist or medical professional
- 2 students needed information on BDSM and the law
- 1 professional needed information on whether kink groups are asking about vaccination carding.
Civil
There were 3 reports compared to 17 in the 1st Quarter of 2021:
- 2 people faced job discrimination due to polyamory or alleged sexual harassment
- 1 person reported being outed
Child Custody
There were 3 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 4 in the 1st Quarter of 2021:
- 2 involved kink
- 1 involved a transgender parent who just came out
