Incident Reporting & Response – 1st Quarter 2022 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 57 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in January, February and March, 2022. That about the same as the 65 reports received in the 4th Quarter of 2021.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.

Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 1st Quarter of 2022:

Groups

Resources were requested by 21 organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 24 requests in the 4th Quarter of 2021. The reports include:

  • 5 groups were asking about presenters/organizers or reporting they had banned someone
  • 5 group organizers reported they were harassed by people who made demands about group bans or their consent policy & procedures
  • 4 groups asked for a consultation on their consent policies & procedures
  • 4 people were banned by a group and wanted to appeal it
  • 3 people were looking for resources and a KAP attorney to incorporate and open a club or shop

Criminal

There were 16 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 23 in the 4th Quarter of 2021:  The reports include:

  • 12 reports came from people who were assaulted, sexually assaulted, had their safeword ignored, or had photos taken and posted without permission (4 of the people who were reported were community organizers)
  • 3 reports came from criminal defense attorneys or those requesting resources and referrals for attorneys to assist in defending themselves against allegations of sexual assault or human trafficking
  • 1 report involved resources on FOSTA and online pornography sales

Civil

There were 7 reports compared to 4 in the 4th Quarter of 2021:

  • 3 people reported job discrimination (1 for being kinky and polyamorous, 1 for being polyamorous, and 1 for being transgender)
  • 1 person was threatened with a defamation lawsuit for talking about consent violations
  • 1 person accused another of defamation
  • 1 person needed an attorney to sue a kink business in small claims court
  • 1 person needed an attorney to defend their copyright since their book is being published on Amazon by someone else

Child Custody

There were 6 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 2 in the 4th Quarter of 2021:

  • 2 parents reported child custody issues due to kink and polyamory
  • 2 parents were reported falsely to CPS in retaliation for talking about consent incidents
  • 1 parent reported child custody issues due to kink
  • 1 parent was in an abusive relationship that their spouse is claiming was BDSM and needs an expert witness

Outing

There were 4 reports compared to 4 in the 4th Quarter of 2021:

  • 2 organizers were outed by someone protesting their consent policy & procedures
  • 1 person reported they were outed by an organizer
  • 1 person reported being doxed

Professionals

There were 3 requests regarding professionals compared to 7 in the 4th Quarter of 2021:

  • 2 professionals asked about licensing and other issues due to participation in alt-sex communities
  • 1 person was looking for a kink aware medical professional
