NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 68 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in April, May and June 2023. That is the same as the 69 reports NCSF received in the 1st Quarter of 2023.
NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.
Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:
Criminal
There were 26 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 29 in the 1st Quarter of 2023: The reports include:
- 21 reports came from people who were assaulted, sexually assaulted, choked, exposed to an STI, recorded without consent, revenge porn, stalking, or obtained an order of protection
- 3 people were accused of interpersonal violence or assault
- 2 people inquired about prostitution laws and kink
Groups
Resources were requested by 26 organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 17 requests in the 1st Quarter of 2023. The reports include:
- 10 groups asked for a consultation on their consent policies & procedures
- 5 groups were asking about attendees/presenters/organizers or reporting they had banned someone
- 4 people were banned by a group and wanted to appeal it
- 2 groups needed a KAP attorney
- 2 groups needed assistance with DEI
- 1 club needed assistance dealing with “sexually oriented business” law
- 1 event needed help with a community protest
- 1 group needed assistance with social media protests
- 1 group was threatened with a discrimination lawsuit
Outing
There were 6 reports compared to 6 in the 1st Quarter of 2023:
- 2 people reported they were threatened with outing for talking about a consent violation
- 2 people were threatened with outing
- 1 person reported they were blackmailed with a threat of outing
- 1 person reported they were outed using FetLife photos
Professionals
There were 6 requests regarding professionals compared to 5 in the 1st Quarter of 2023:
- Someone needed a DEI professional
- Someone needed a trauma counselor
- Someone needed a professional to assist with consensual non-monogamy
- A student inquired about DSM revision changes
- A student inquired about BDSM and consent
- A student inquired about kink and healing trauma
Civil
There were 3 reports compared to 4 in the 1st Quarter of 2023:
- Someone needed an attorney to deal with defamation
- A podcast reports they were shadow-banned on Pinterest
- An activist inquired about dealing with social media harassment
Child Custody
There was 1 request for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 5 in the 1st Quarter of 20232:
- Someone was looking for a family attorney to assist with nonmonogamy
