Incident Reporting & Response – 3rd Quarter 2023 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 54 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in July, August and September 2023. That’s 20% less than the 68 reports NCSF received in the 2nd Quarter of 2023.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.

Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:

Criminal

There were 26 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 26 in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:

  • 24 reports came from people who were assaulted, sexually assaulted, choked, exposed to an STI, recorded without consent, revenge porn, theft, or obtained an order of protection
  • 1 person need help with a probation ruling
  • 1 person inquired about prostitution laws and kink

Groups

Resources were requested by 14 organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 26 requests in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:

  • 4 people were banned by a group and wanted to appeal it
  • 3 groups asked for a consultation on their consent policies & procedures
  • 2 groups needed a KAP attorney
  • 1 group was asking about attendees/presenters/organizers or reporting they had banned someone
  • 1 person needed assistance with DEI issues with a group
  • 1 club needed assistance dealing with “sexually oriented business” law
  • 1 event reported their venue canceled their contract for their event
  • 1 group needed assistance with 2257 requirements

Civil

There were 7 reports compared to 3 in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:

  • 5 people needed an attorney, mediator or restorative justice professional to deal with defamation
  • Someone needed attorney referrals for employment discrimination
  • A business was dropped by their insurer – referred them to NCSF’s Members Insurance Program

Outing

There were 5 reports compared to 6 in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:

  • An organizer asked how to deal with a report of threats of outing against a member
  • Someone was outed by group organizers after they reported an assault
  • Someone was outed to their job
  • Someone was outed to their family members
  • Someone reported they were harassed and outed in Canada

Professional

There were 2 requests regarding professionals compared to 6 in the 2nd Quarter of 2023:

  • A student researcher asked NCSF for help with their survey
  • Someone needed a KAP therapist
