NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 50 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in July, August and September 2023. That’s similar to the number of reports received in the 3rd Quarter of 2023.
NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.
Here is a breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 4th Quarter of 2023:
Groups
Resources were requested by 17 organizations and people who are dealing with groups, compared to 14 requests in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- 6 groups asked for a consultation on their consent policies & procedures
- 4 groups asked about attendees/presenters/organizers or reported they had banned someone
- 3 people were banned by a group and wanted to appeal it
- 2 people needed assistance with DEI and Consent Policy issues with groups
- 1 group needed a KAP attorney for zoning issues
- 1 group needed information on organizational structures
Criminal
There were 16 requests for resources and information involving criminal legal matters, compared to 26 in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- 11 reports came from people who were assaulted, sexually assaulted, choked, exposed to an STI, recorded without consent, or threatened
- 2 reports were about people who pled guilty to a crime or are on the sex offenders list
- 1 report came from someone who are accused of violating an order of protection
- 1 person needed an expert witness for a criminal trial
- 1 person inquired about sex work and FOSTA
Civil
There were 6 reports compared to 7 in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- 2 people needed an attorney, mediator or restorative justice professional to deal with defamation
- 2 people reported shadow-banning or account suspension in regards to BDSM
- Someone reported they weren’t allowed to see their non-monogamous partner in addiction recovery
- Someone needs to explain BDSM to their employer
Professional
There were 6 requests regarding professionals compared to 2 in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- 2 people needed a referral to a KAP therapist
- A researcher needed info on kink community and motivations for being dominant
- A law student needed information to write about Explicit Prior Permission
- An educator needed information about kink and mental health professionals for an advocacy project
- A professional needed information on choking/strangulation for an article
Child Custody/Divorce
There were 3 requests for resources and referrals for family court attorneys, compared to 0 in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- Someone needed a KAP attorney for divorce and CNM issues
- Someone needed a KAP divorce attorney for kink issues
- Someone in Canada needed assistance with kink and child custody issues
Outing
There were 2 reports compared to 5 in the 3rd Quarter of 2023:
- Someone was outed and their child custody affected
- Someone reported a threat of outing
