People asked lawyers questions, judges led court tours and CSI experts showed technology Tuesday at the Johnson County Bar Association Law Day.
And one event packed a crowd into a courtroom in the county courthouse in Olathe for an hour — the story of serial killer John E. Robinson Sr.
Former District Attorney Paul Morrison, who put Robinson on death row in 2003, told the story of an Eagle Scout who turned into a sadistic serial killer.
Homicide was a kind of hobby for the man who was perhaps the nation’s first serial murderer to work through the Internet, Morrison said.
He told listeners how Robinson was convicted of three murders in Johnson County and five across the state line in Cass County.
Police suspected the longtime con artist of much worse after Lenexa police linked him to a missing woman in 2000.
They connected him to other missing women and police and prosecutors started a secret investigation that lasted for weeks.
They found he posted Internet ads trolling for women interested in bondage and sadomasochism. Police and prosecutors waded into what they called a strange new world.
Robinson signed emails to the women, “hugs, lashes and kisses.” He told at least one woman he was with the CIA. …
