Adult businesses reach deal with county

Associated Press report

via Myrtle Beach Sun News

May 27, 2006

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Two adult-oriented businesses have agreed not to sell certain items at their stores and to drop a federal lawsuit against the county in exchange for having some merchandise that was seized during a raid returned.

According to negotiations between the county and an attorney for Priscilla's and the Movie Gallery, the stores will not sell certain material prosecutors say violates the state's obscenity law. Those items include material depicting violence toward women, bondage and other sexually explicit acts, said Spartanburg County chief prosecutor Trey Gowdy.

"The values of this community are different from the values in communities such as San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles," Gowdy said. "And I think, actually, both sides have recognized that."

More than 500 movies, sex toys and other items were seized during a raid in January. Officers also confiscated videos and DVDs at the Movie Gallery.

Prosecutors will continue to pursue charges against clerks at each store charged with violating obscenity laws remain active.

Mayor battles bid to oust him

by Heidi Bernhard-Bubb

The York Dispatch (York, PA)

May 26, 2006

The question of whether Wrightsville Mayor and convicted felon — Steve Rambler is fit to hold public office should have been raised before he was elected, according to a motion for summary judgment filed yesterday in York County Common Pleas Court.

The motion, filed by Rambler's attorney, asks the court to dismiss a March 28 complaint filed by District Attorney Stan Rebert to unseat Rambler.

The state election code requires objections to be raised in a "timely fashion" during the nomination petition process, says the motion, filed by attorney Michael Felton on Rambler's behalf.

According to the district attorney's complaint, Rambler is "not duly qualified for the office of Mayor of Wrightsville due to his infamous crime conviction." In 1996, Rambler pleaded guilty in federal court to felony extortion and was ordered to serve two years' probation and pay a $550 fine.

According to court records, Rambler solicited sexually explicit correspondence, including nude photos, from people he contacted through swingers' magazines. He then sent about 30 letters to people threatening to reveal the correspondence unless they paid him $50, records state.

Miller Beer Supports Consensual Homosexual Violence

by staff writer

The Conservative Voice

May 26, 2006

Naperville, Illinois – Americans for Truth President Peter LaBarbera today condemned Miller Brewing Company and Palmer House Hilton for sponsoring and hosting an annual sadistic sex celebration in Chicago that glorifies "consensual" sexual violence and degradation, and some of the most reprehensible perversions ever invented by men.

The International Mr. Leather (IML) contest draws homosexual, sadomasochistic "leathermen" from all over the world to Chicago every Memorial Day weekend. The IML's vendors' market shows what types of behaviors the IML celebrates: "gay" male porn videos featuring condomless, "barebacking" anal sex; whips, chains, "electrotorture" devices and other implements designed to inflict pain and humiliation; bondage materials; and even a booth for a group called "Water Boys" devoted to "sex pigs" who receive sexual gratification from urinating on one another during orgies.

At IML events, "masters" can be seen leading around their (willing) "slaves" on leashes – another subgroup in the bizarre "leather" world.

This year's event is being held from May 25th through May 29th at the Palmer House Hilton, a swank Chicago hotel which has often been host to this and other hedonistic homosexual events. Miller Lite is listed as an "IML Official Sponsor" on the International Mr. Leather website. Miller has been catering to the "leatherman" crowd, and other militant homosexual activists, for years through event sponsorships.

"It is both appalling and mind-boggling that Miller Beer and the Palmer House Hilton would lend their corporate names to, and endorse an event that is dedicated to celebrating extremely dangerous behaviors which would absolutely repulse 99 percent of their customers", LaBarbera said. "No corporation should seek to profit from sexual violence, albeit consensual, and organized perversion".

Girl said she was 19, man testifies at trial

by Karen Hucks

The News Tribune (Tacoma, WA)

May 26, 2006

A 48-year-old Fircrest man who prosecutors say raped and kidnapped a 14-year-old girl got on the witness stand this week and told jurors he was a "pleaser", committed to fulfilling women's fantasies, and that he would never knowingly have sex with an underage girl.

In a soft voice, Stanley Scott Sadler explained why in the bondage and discipline community he called himself "Master Thorn".

"In the context of a dominant and a submissive, if the submissive is a rose, the thorn would be the protector of the rose", he said.

Sadler, a postal technician, said the Clark County teen he is accused of raping, kidnapping and photographing sexually told him she was 19 and showed him documents online to prove it.

She also agreed to everything they did, he said.

But during two days of scathing cross-examination, he acknowledged he also called himself the more intense "Demon2ownFe-male", and that in 2003 he said online he would abduct and rape someone who told him she was a 15-year-old South Tacoma girl.

Sadler said that Internet chat – which he said he didn't remember – must have been a role-play with an adult woman.

Hidden camera investigation: Swingers Next Door

by staff reporter

KVBC TV (Las Vegas, NV)

May 25, 2006

Those intimately involved call it "the lifestyle." Swinging or swapping spouses for sex. It's something that's gone on here for years, isn't widely publicized, and may not be legal, but its popularity and locations are spreading.

Prostitution is illegal in Clark County, but you can pay for the opportunity to have sex with others in your own neighborhood. Patrons hope what happens at a swingers club stays there, but neighbors of one such place want to get the word and the people out.

Nestled at the edge of Sunrise Mountain, the holiest of places for one of the valley's biggest religions, the Mormon Temple is where marriages take place and lives as a couple begin. But just 500 yards up the road, as the sun sets, a much different lifestyle takes shape.

The Glitter Nights Swingers Party takes place in Sunrise Manor, a 22,000-square-foot mansion in a purely residential neighborhood, operating as a business.

Glitter nights is in County Commissioner Rory Reid's district. "I just think it's outrageous this is in a residential neighborhood," says Reid. This is an apparent adult use in a residential neighborhood, and I don't think anybody, no matter how, umm, progressive they may be, would condone that use in a neighborhood."

It's not just in this neighborhood. At the Lights of Vegas estate on the other side of town, near Cheyenne and Jones, it's $60 per couple at the door. Their website lists a host of events, including a mother's day brunch. At the house, there's hot food, cold drinks and group sex.

There are at least eight of these places around the valley, and many, including the well-known Red Rooster, operate in residential neighborhoods. But while the newer clubs are easy to find on the web, they've essentially operated under the radar, until now.

"A swingers club, sex club, as set forth in Title 30 is something that's forbidden," explains County code Enforcement officer Joe Boteilho. "…an entrance fee to get into for this purpose is something that's spelled out very clearly."

And the County is now involved in a full-scale investigation.
