The PR Committee manages NCSF’s social media by building awareness about NCSF and providing education about our projects and consent to enhance our presence and be more effective at broadcasting our information. The PR Committee falls under the Media Outreach Program which does media advocacy for kink and non-monogamy groups, events and individuals on request. Here is our social media Policy & Procedures.
- The PR Committee meets once a quarter in 2024 (January, April, July & October) on the 3rd Monday of the Month at 8:30 Eastern. We currently have 23 committee members with only 5 active members.
Executive Summary
- Shadow-banning continues to impact NCSF’s social media outreach efforts:
- It’s difficult to keep volunteers engaged despite many innovative media campaign efforts we’ve tried.
- Fewer articles are being published that fit our criteria due to the banning of words like “kink” and swinging” (See IRR Report for community-wide impact)

Media Updates
NCSF Media Updates encourage our communities to provide direct feedback on how kink and nonmonogamy are covered by the media. It also serves as a way to track media coverage on kink and nonmonogamy. There was a sharp decline in AltSex media coverage in the leadup to the election with no articles published in October.
NCSF published 63 MU’s in 2024 compared to 101 in 2023 and 113 in 2022:

- 18 in July – Dec 2024 (6 Kink, 5 CNM, 4 Swing, 3 choking)

Guest Blogs
Guest Blogs allow a broader range of voices to be broadcast by NCSF and have been valuable resources. Blogs must offer education for professionals about the kink or nonmonogamy communities or pertain to how the kink and nonmonogamy communities interface with mainstream society (i.e., child custody discrimination, outing, dealing with law enforcement, discrimination or DEI issues).

In 2024, having interviewed with all of the kink and nonmonogamy podcasts on the PR Committee’s outreach list in regards to EPP, no proactive outreach was done. NCSF staff gave 9 interviews compared to 24 in 23, 25 in 2022, 17 in 2021, and 24 in 2020, including:

Our own NCSFreedom.org website has proven to be a much more viable outreach platform for NCSF, so we will continue to post Media Updates, Calls to Action, Infographics and NCSF News on the main page slider as well as on Facebook and Instagram, and videos on YouTube, despite our limited reach on social media.
